Postpartum Support

In September 2009, 4 weeks after my son Levi was born, I was diagnosed with postpartum depression. Thanks to the help and guidance of many amazing people and organizations, I am on the road to wellness. Currently, I am in treatment for anxiety and depression; my health resources include: talk therapy and counseling, medication, self-care which includes daily yoga and exercise, one-on-one time with my husband and each of my children, as well as support from friends and family. Taking the first steps to treat my depression were the hardest, but once I did, many, many good people came forward to help me find the light at the other side.

I decided to put together this page as a resource for other families who are coping with postpartum depression.

Postpartum Support International http://www.postpartum.net/

Postpartum Support Virginia http://www.postpartumva.org/

Women’s Health.gov http://www.womenshealth.gov/faq/depression-pregnancy.cfm

Postpartum Progress (the blog)

PPD Survivor http://ppdsurvivor.blogspot.com/

Additionally, this list of facts and this list of frequently asked questions about postpartum depression, published by Postpartum Support International, helped my family and me understand postpartum depression to a greater extent.

This resource page is not exhaustive; if you have a recommended resource, whether it be an online source, book, or person, that you’d like to share, please comment on this page or e-mail me at monte (dot) jessica (at) gmail (dot) com.
