I’ve mentioned Chris Orwig’s Visual Poetry more than a few times here; well, this week, I’m reading his chapter on “Travel.” One of Orwig’s assignments for the budding photographer is to travel no more than 15 miles from home and photograph a local place as though you were seeing the place with new eyes. I decided to drive about 5 miles to Herndon, VA, where I knew a certain old caboose would entertain my daughter and allow me to capture a few photos of the quaint old town center. While there, we happened upon a small Spanish bakery where I photographed the following cakes. I aspire to photograph desserts like Jose Villa but I figure since this is my first time actually photographing food, well, I have to start somewhere, right?
Oh, and these photos are also my entry for this week’s challenge on I Heart Faces: I Heart Desserts.

To see a few more decadent photos of dessert, head on over to I Heart Faces, :-)

send me the real deal, yummm!
Looks good! Have you found any good resources for food photography tips? My food photography… not so tasty looking.
Which picture are you submitting? I like the first!~ :)
The first and last photos are AMAZING. The fruit almost looks like candy! And what is the bottom photo? Cake? Bread? The color is magnificent!
Fruit on top of a dessert, that makes it healthy, right? That’s what I’ll keep telling myself. Great shots.
Great photos! I live just 15 minutes or so from Herndon, so I’m particularly intrigued by this bakery. I may have to check it out sometime.
