what brand of food does toby eat? that'd be my first question. for indoors exercise we use a similar toy to the one you show in your pics (and i sometimes offer catnip before the game begins). we also have one of those many tiered cat structures so i can encourage her to jump around (especially up) using the toy. we only do this in the winter though as she is indoor/outdoor and in the spring and summer she takes full advantage of the outdoors. (in the winter she is in all day because she does not like the snow on her kitty feet - she is a princess.)

our recent thing to enjoy at the end of the day is very small stickers. it takes some dexterity for him to handle the stickers so he can concentrate quietly and i can get a few mins of cooking done (if chickpea will let me).

My cat loves to attack small, stuffed toys. We have a little Curious George who often finds himself, belly up, outside our bedroom door. She is an indoor cat so this is the best she can do in the hunting department.

As for keeping my kids busy at the end of the day - we love books on CD. Now that my oldest is 4 1/2 she can listen to them herself. They're great!

Toby is a tubby tabby, but I have to say, a very handsome and photogenic cat.

My favorite pet workout was with a laser pointer. That thing drove my cat insane- climbing and doing flips off the wall!

BTW, that is wonderful you are teaching your little scientist about presenting data in charts!
