Crazy Pregnant Woman

So, hello there. Gosh, I wish I’d stopped in earlier this week . . . I’m finding that every spare moment I have I am either making stuff with Annabelle or stealing away to my bed, where I am savoring every second of rest that I can get. With 9 weeks to go, I find myself having moments when I wonder, “Am I ever not going to be pregnant again?” Yes, I realize the logical answer to this is that the light at the end of my tunnel is giving birth and welcoming my beautiful baby to the world, and I also recognize that I am lucky that my baby is healthy (to my current knowledge) and that I am healthy and for the most part experiencing an easy pregnancy. Still, the more that I expand, the more I begin to think about what my toes look like and when again I’ll be able to see them, :-)

Meanwhile, I am nesting. Last week my husband and Annabelle (with my supervision) assembled our baby’s dresser, a fine piece that we picked up at that fancy Swedish furniture store. Another mommy told me a bit about this store’s environmental policy, and this knowledge (along with the fact that my husband will probably freak out if I try to refinish another piece of second hand furniture) swayed me to purchase a new piece for my coming babe. Since we’ll be cosleeping for the first year or so, my son’s “room” consists of his dresser, a nursing chair, end table (which I did refinish and was scolded for doing so by an unnamed person, :-) ), and train table (to keep his big sister entertained). I thought I’d show you all what my boy’s space looks like:

This is where the booby action will happen.  I found the “transportation” theme lamp at the Goodwill.

The dresser, in my opinion, is gigantanormous, which actually helps with storage since his “space” is actually our loft, a room that currently is without its 4th wall.  Eventually, we’ll construct a wall and a closet, but in the meantime, we’re going to make do with his large dresser and some borrowed space in his big sister’s room.

Over the dresser, I (okay, my husband really) hung a shelf with knobs so that we’d have easy access to onesies and a bit of cuteness too.   I found the shelf at the Goodwill too.

On the shelf, I placed 2 wooden craft boats and our baby’s initials (just 2 of them . . . we’re not announcing the name til the day he arrives).

Meanwhile, setting up the baby’s space has meant relocating Annabelle’s awesome art room to one half of my husband’s billiard room (we live in a townhouse, so it’s not like we’ve got a blue, red, or yellow room; it’s just that well, pool is very important to my husband).  Anyhoo . . . this is what Annabelle’s art space looks like these days:

A toy chest (not pictured here), her easel, and a supply shelf make up her art space.

I organized her paints onto one shelf.  The second shelf is full of my parenting and kids’ crafting books.

And on her other shelves are collage materials (glue, scissors, scrap papers, cutout shapes and greeting card images), crayons, markers, construction paper, and cardstock.  I do ask that she ask for permission to play with her clay and stamps, but aside from that, she’s free to create to her heart’s content.

Last, we also finally replaced our futon mattress (remember how I shared that my cat Toby had a bit of an accident on it?) so that grandparents and midwives (potentially, should we have a homebirth) will have a place to stay during the time of birth.

I apologize if this post bores you to tears . . . you can only imagine what my husband is feeling as I go through each room of our home rearranging furniture, hanging new pictures, and just being, well, a crazy pregnant woman.  But this is what consumes me these days, this is where I am, and I thought it just might interest you . . .

What are you up to this week?  Is anyone else rearranging furniture and hanging new curtains?

Talk more soon,

Jessica

That looks such an awesome art space! I would love to have space here for Sunnyboy to have an area with art materials set up. I’m going to have to think outside the box a bit I think :)

Tracy, I think the dining room as art room makes sense, being that there’s a perfectly good table for artists (young and old) to use. This is likely where my kiddos will do their homework and other studies as they grow older.

robin, ha, ha! My husband happens to be M.M.M. and likes that we keep 2 Ms in our kids’ names; prior to the pop/rap star, my hubby was called M&M (after the candy and because of his initials). Annabelle is “Mina Monte”; in a few weeks, I’ll share what our little boy’s name is, :-)

oh, i forgot to mention, when i saw “mm” i just kept thinking “marlboro man” a la pioneer woman’s husband! teehee.

What a sweet room for a baby boy. “MM”…hmmm…what could it be?!
Also, very smart to place the paints up high on the art shelf! Our dining room serves as our art supply room.
Oh, Congrats on a baby boy. Boys are awesome!

I agree I don’t want too much stuff, but I’ve got so many rooms that are just plain empty… the whole house echoes. I’m sure it will be full before I know it :)

Tabbie, yes, isn’t it, :-) I’m glad this post wasn’t so bad after all . . .

robin, me too . . . I can’t wait to nurse my little babe, :-)

Lynn, I understand your son’s love for bubbles; today’s post happens to be about just that. Congrats on your new home!

Amber, thank you, :-)

abbie, to be honest, I like not having lots of “stuff” . . . my hubby and I try to donate or sell items we don’t use anymore so that our house doesn’t get too distracting; we both like open spaces. I love, love, loved your house when we saw it this past summer. Open and airy is good for creativity, in my opinion anyway, :-)

I love seeing these spaces. They give me hope that oneday the vast emptiness of my house will have “stuff” in it!

I’m in the thick of exams now… reviewing with my students, then giving and scoring the exams next week, and finally graduation the following week. While I struggle to organize my classroom and greenhouse in the next two weeks, my home has become rather disheveled. But it’s not the first time!!!

Your baby’s space is very sweet.

And I don’t think we would have anywhere to sit if it weren’t for the Swedish furniture store. I heart IKEA. :)

I love seeing baby spaces. Our little boy (18 months) is JUST getting his own room as we’ve moved into a new house this week. He cosleeps, and started sleeping in it on his first night here! I had planned this wonderful truck wall mural, but the last owners painted the room blue with yellow bubbles, and our son seems delighted with them, pointing at them and saying “buh buh buh!” (bubbles), and “yayaya!” (yellow), as in “Who would ever want to sleep anywhere else? This one has YELLOW BUBBLES!”

i love ikea. i love how you are all tidy and organized. i dream of being like you when i grow up.

you don’t, by any chance, need any diapers do you? i feel like we are friendly enough that i can say that without it being spammy. it is just that the bean is potty learning and i have cloth that needs a new home.

happy nesting mama. can’t wait to see pics of you sitting in the chair nursing your new babe.

and, the birth story is coming. it is in the works…

The dresser really is “gigantanormous” ha ha, but that makes it perfect. I didn’t find this post to be boring at all. I see it as a charming way to document and cherish these amazing days in your life. :)
