Coinciding with the Everyday Woman’s post “One Green Thing” and her suggestion that green folks everywhere plant something to welcome spring, Annabelle and I happened to have already jumped on the bandwagon by picking up some pansies at our local gardening center (I hoped to brighten up our front yard with some colorful enduring flowers and have a fun dirt digging activity for Annabelle and me to do together).
First we visited the gardening center and I asked Annabelle to pick out the pansies. She seemed to favor purples and yellows, so that is mostly what we planted, though I did manage to sneak in a few white and purple pansies to create a hanging arrangement.

When we returned home, we loaded up her Radio Flyer with potting soil and gardening tools and got straight to work potting our pansies.
Annabelle practiced more digging and scooping while I focused on carefully removing our pansies and placing them into the pot. Annabelle promptly added more dirt to top everything off. Below are a few pictures of our repotted pansies:

Once our potting was finished, Annabelle began singing her clean-up song and headed inside to grab her dust pan and broom. Together we swept the dirt off our front steps and positioned our pansies on the steps to our townhouse.

If your little one likes to dig in dirt, or garden, as much as my little one does, you may also want to check out this post from last week on planting bulbs with toddlers.

Sunnymama, it makes me feel so happy when we pull up to our house and there are bright flowers there to greet us.
Your townhouse steps are going to look so pretty!
Cyndi, thank you. Also, both of your boys seem to be motivated explorers. Annabelle also likes to get into the dirt and find things, though I noticed that when we were outside planting she is afraid of worms, =). I am wondering whether there might be a difference between boys and girls . . . we’ll see what we’re having this coming week, and then perhaps I can find out for myself . . . though even then, it could just be personality.
such pretty pansies. the purpley yellow ones are my faves as well.
