Painting Snowflakes

This year, instead of purchasing holiday decorations, we are adding to our Christmas decorations by creating a few of our own.   To make these snowflake window clingers, I picked up unfinished wooden snowflakes from a craft store and spent the afternoon with Annabelle painting with white and shimmering paints.  Not only was this project super easy to do, but the snowflakes look great hanging in our windows.

To set up this activity, simply cover a work surface with an oil cloth, pour your paints into paint containers (old yogurt and hummus containers work great), give your young painter a foam brush, and go to town painting your snow flakes.

We may add to our display by placing LED candle lights in the windows below the flakes for a pretty nighttime view.   Below are 2 of our snowflakes hanging in our kitchen windows.

Since I am a huge Christmas enthusiast, we’ve got many a crafty Christmas project in the works.  So this week, when you stop by on over here, you can expect a good spoonful of holiday cheer and a little bit about what my family is doing to celebrate too.

Thank you! Hopefully we will be able to create many more holiday decorations and gifts together. My little one loves to paint, so we’ll likely do another activity like this one.

Beautiful decorations! Love the snowflakes, especially that they were hand-painted by Annabelle! Wonderful Christmas memories in the making! You’ll be surprised how many years in the future you will pull out these creations, remembering the day you have fun making them together!
